Toronto Opera Repertoire
Auditions For Our 2008 Season!

JOIN OUR TEAM OF SOLOISTS!
These photos show scenes from our 2007 productions of Verdis La Traviata and Rigoletto featuring some TOR stalwarts, and some singers taking a lead role for the first time! Top, left, Stephen Targett, as the Baron in La Traviata, also doubled as Germont in the same opera, and sang Marullo in Rigoletto. Guys are scarce. They get lots of parts! Centre: tenor Romulo Delgado, a hit as Pinkerton in our production of Madame Butterfly, sang Alfredo in La Traviata. Right: Carrie Gray, never before on the operatic stage, made a stunning debut as Violetta. Below, Alon Eshet and Sara DiGirolamo as the doctor and Flora in La Traviata. Alon also sang Sparafucile in Rigoletto, and Sara doubled as Annina in La Traviata. Centre: TOR veteran Yevgeny Yablonovsky in the title role of Rigoletto, with newcomer Catherine Rooney as Gilda. Right: chorus member Alexis Morrison hopes to be seduced by Jeremy Corneil as the Duke in Rigoletto.
You could be in the picture next year! All solo roles are cast through auditions that happen each spring and fall.
Spring auditions were held Friday, June 1.
Fall auditions will be held Saturday, September 8, from 2 pm to 6 pm.
We will be choosing two operas from the following three currently under consideration:
La Bohème (Puccini)
A Masked Ball (Verdi)
The Tales of Hoffmann (Offenbach)
There will also be two evenings of opera excerpts, featuring our soloists in short scenes from a selection of well-loved operas.
A singer interested in a principal role should prepare several arias from one or more of the above operas and
- leave a message at 416-698-9572, or
- your request
Soloists interested in a secondary role, or anyone who may not have time to prepare pieces from the operas under consideration, may sing any aria which he or she feels shows the voice to advantage. All voice types are required, but tenors and baritones are particularly encouraged to audition. Soloists should understand that, in addition to their duties as principals, they are required to sing in the chorus of the opera in which they do not have a solo role. Soloists must also pay a fee to the Toronto District School Board in order to register with this program.
Rehearsals will begin early October, 2007, for performances in February and early March, 2008. Check out our Soloist Program page for more information and a few words from singers whove been through it all before!
No audition is required for those interested in joining the chorus so check our Chorus Program for more information, or write us at .
